LMCU Opens Applications for 36th Annual Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship

High school seniors can apply for one of twenty $2,000 scholarships by submitting an

essay by November 30, 2026

Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is now accepting applications for its 36th annual Lloyd

F. Hutt Scholarship. This year, LMCU is asking high school seniors to write about the

"influencers" in their lives. These aren't the ones with the most followers. They're the

people, experiences, and ideas that have made a lasting difference.

LMCU will award twenty $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to continue

their education after graduation at a college, university, or trade school. The program

honors Lloyd F. Hutt, the schoolteacher who founded LMCU and believed in the power of

education. Since 1990, the Hutt Scholarship has awarded more than $660,000 to 372

students.

To enter, students must submit an original essay on this year's topic: "Influencers" aren't

just online: people we know, experiences we've had, books, beliefs, quotes, and

communities can all influence us. Tell us about someone or something that has had a

lasting influence on you and your future plans.

High school seniors in Michigan or Florida are eligible to apply, including homeschooled

students. Seniors outside those states may also qualify if they are LMCU members or the

child of an LMCU member. Teachers, counselors, and school administrators can find

ready-to-share flyers, social media posts, and graphics at LMCU.org/Hutt to help spread

the word.

"Lloyd Hutt spent his career helping students see what was possible," said Matt Cook, Vice

President of Corporate Social Responsibility at LMCU. "Every year, these essays remind us

how many people and experiences help shape a young person's future. We're proud to play

a small part in what comes next for them."

Applications will be accepted from October 1 through November 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
