Wednesday, April 22, 2026 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Check-in & Networking 11:30AM-12:00PM
Program 12:00-1:00PM

Lakewood Ranch remains one of the nation’s most dynamic multigenerational communities, and Manatee and Sarasota County School Districts are actively evolving to meet the changing needs of students, families, and the workforce. In today’s School of Hope climate, school leaders are rethinking how education is delivered—focusing on opportunity, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Manatee School Superintendent Dr. Laurie Breslin and Sarasota School Superintendent Terry Connor join us to discuss how their districts are adapting instructional models, resources, and priorities to prepare students for the future. Both Superintendents will share insights on maintaining high-performing schools, responding to shifting community needs, and positioning their districts for what’s ahead.

Speakers

Dr. Laurie Breslin, Superintendent of the School District of Manatee County

Dr. Laurie Craig Breslin was appointed Superintendent of the School District of Manatee County on Sept. 10. She leads a district serving 55,000 students across traditional, charter, and alternative settings, and oversees approximately 6,000 employees—making the district the largest employer in Manatee County. A proud graduate of Manatee schools, former teacher, principal, and now a parent in the district, Dr. Breslin embodies the tradition of excellence that defines the School District of Manatee County. Her journey reflects the spirit of being Manatee Made, Manatee Strong—a leader shaped by this community and dedicated to advancing it.

Prior to becoming superintendent, Dr. Breslin served as Executive Director of Student Support & Family Engagement, where she oversaw ESOL, ESE, Federal Programs, Early Childhood, Student Services, and sixteen charter schools, achieving significant gains for English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities. She has also held key roles in curriculum and assessment, rebuilt the district’s curriculum department, and delivered record-high academic performance. At the school level, she served as principal of Sarasota Middle School and in leadership roles at Booker High, Palmetto High, and Manatee High Schools. Dr. Breslin holds an Ed.D. in Teaching & Learning from Argosy University and advanced degrees from the University of Florida.

Terry Connor, Superintendent of the School District of Sarasota County

Terry Connor serves as Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools, leading with a clear focus on every student, every day. His work centers on student achievement and strong organizational performance.

A Jacksonville native and first-generation college graduate, Terry has spent his career in Florida public education. He has served in nearly every K–12 role, from middle school science teacher to deputy superintendent in large urban districts.
