The Twig

The Twig's mission is to encourage and inspire foster families by meeting their needs in a practical way. We created a trendy boutique where children in foster care may shop free of charge for clothing items and shoes once a month, each and every month they are in foster care. The boutique is not open to the general public, but only for children who are in the foster care system who have been placed in licensed foster homes or with relative/non-relative caregivers. Over 2,000 children in our area are currently in the foster care system. These children have experienced abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment and were removed from their homes for their own safety, through no fault of their own. When coming into care children bring very little, many times only the clothes on their backs. We are here to meet this need. Our volunteers serve as personal shoppers and help the children find items they need and love all while filing them with encouragement and support. The Twig is a place where over 350 children shop every month - from newborn babies to teenagers who have 'aged out' of the foster care system. They shop with dignity and are encouraged to succeed in their lives as they choose items that boost their confidence and self-esteem. Beyond providing these children with clothes we are providing them with a place where they feel they belong. Every child has their name placed on our walls to show them how important they are to us and to our community.
