Humane Society of Manatee County Veterinarian/Wellness Director, Dr. Lindsay Rollend Achieved Board Certification in the College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine
Bradenton, Fla. August 2023 – The Humane Society of Manatee County is proud to announce their staff Veterinarian/Wellness Director most recently became board-certified in the College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Lindsay is now considered a specialist in the field of veterinary preventive medicine which encompasses the topics of infectious disease control, animal welfare, disaster management, environmental health and toxicology, epidemiology and biostatistics, and food safety. These are all components of preventive medicine and relate to One Health, which is the understanding that people, animals, and the environment are linked together in their health and wellness. In order to have healthy people, animals, and an environment, parties involved in all areas need to work together and share their ideals.
About Dr. Lindsay Rollend – DVM, MPH, DACVPM
Dr. Lindsay is originally from Massachusetts but has lived in Connecticut, Iowa, and now Florida. She worked at Yale University in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health for eight years managing a vector-borne disease laboratory. It was during this time that she pursued her master’s degree in public health from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Lindsay soon developed a passion for infectious diseases that affect both animals and people and ways in which they can be monitored, prevented, and controlled. This led to a career change and entrance into veterinary school at Iowa State University.
In November of 2017, she was hired at the Humane Society of Manatee County as an associate veterinarian and was soon promoted to Wellness Director, where she has filled that position for the past five years.
